What we do · Birmingham

The full rites, without cost to the family.

For a decade, ALIKRAM has stood beside Eritrean Muslim families in Birmingham through the four rites of Islamic burial — ghusl, Janazah, burial, and Aza — carried out in full for members, at no cost to the family.

The Funeral Service

Every step, handled with care.

I
Rite 01

Ghusl

The ritual washing of the deceased, performed with dignity and in accordance with the Sunnah — a communal obligation ALIKRAM ensures is never left undone.

II
Rite 02

Salat al-Janazah

The funeral prayer, gathering the community to seek mercy for the departed and to fulfil a duty that rests on all until it is answered by some.

III
Rite 03

Burial

A prompt, whole-body burial according to Islamic practice — never cremation — arranged without delay and without financial burden on the family.

IV
Rite 04

Family Support & Aza

Hostel and Aza facilities for the mourning period, and continued support — including for members who lose loved ones abroad, and for non-members in need.

Community Activities

Beyond burial — the work carries on.

Support for Quba Islamic Centre

ALIKRAM organised an appeal among its members to support the expansion of Quba Islamic Centre — raising and contributing £2,060, a testament to a commitment that goes beyond the charity's core burial services.

Healthy Family Relationships

A workshop on family relationships with partners and children, delivered by Mr. Ahmed Assenay — part of a widening role in community wellbeing and education.

Five-a-side Football

ALIKRAM organised a five-a-side football tournament to raise awareness of the charity across the community — bringing people together through sport and introducing many to the charity's mission for the first time.

Membership Fees

What it costs to join.

Membership Registration Annual
Family Household, including children under 16 £20 £65/ yr
Single Age 20 and above £10 £35/ yr
Youth Ages 16 to 19 £0 £20/ yr

Divorced and widowed members join at the Single rate. Youth membership becomes Single from age 20. All fees go directly toward covering burial costs for members and running the charity's community work.

Standing beside every family.

Since 2016, we have covered every rite for every member — because a family in grief should not be met with a bill.
